Isotretinoin, (also known as 13-cis retinoic acid), trade names are ,Claravis, Decutan, Isotane, Sotret, Oratane, Izotek, Amnesteem, and Isotroin, is a medication primarily used to treat cystic acne. Anabolic steroids, which are commonly consumed by athletes and bodybuilders to create muscle mass, can also cause acne in men. Isotretinoin is an isomer of Vitamin A (13-cis-Vitamin A acid) which reduces the amount of oil released by sebaceous/oil glands in skin. It is used to treat moderate to severe acne, and to help skin more rapidly renew itself.

Application:

Isotretinoin is used to treat severe cystic acne (also known as nodular acne) that has not responded to other treatment (e.g., benzoyl peroxide or clindamycin applied to the skin or tetracycline or minocycline taken by mouth).
